Trust God in the Delays
Scripture: Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (KJV)
Introduction
Have you ever prayed and wondered…
“God, where are You?”
“Why is this taking so long?”
“Did You forget about me?”
Most Christians love God’s promises.
Few Christians enjoy God’s waiting room.
We want immediate answers.
God often gives preparation before promotion.
We want a miracle today.
God is building our faith for tomorrow.
The delay is not proof that God has abandoned you.
Sometimes the delay is proof that God is working where you cannot see.
Point 1: God’s Delays Are Not God’s Denials
Many people mistake silence for absence.
Just because God is quiet doesn’t mean He is gone.
Abraham
God promised Abraham a son.
He waited…
1 year…
5 years…
10 years…
25 years.
Imagine how many times Abraham wondered if he misunderstood God.
But God never forgot His promise.
When Isaac was finally born, everyone knew it was God’s miracle—not Abraham’s ability.
Sometimes if God answered immediately, we would think we accomplished it ourselves.
The delay gives God the glory.
Point 2: God Uses Waiting to Grow Us
James 1:2-4
Trials produce patience.
Patience produces maturity.
Nobody likes waiting.
But waiting develops something success never can.
Imagine planting a seed.
You don’t dig it up every day asking,
“Why aren’t you growing?”
Growth happens underground before anyone sees it.
The same is true spiritually.
God is doing invisible work.
Illustration
Think about baking a cake.
You cannot take it out after five minutes.
It looks unfinished.
The middle is still soft.
It isn’t ready.
Leave it in the oven until the right time.
God knows when you are ready.
If He removes you too early, you’ll collapse under pressure.
Point 3: Joseph’s Delay Saved Nations
Joseph had dreams from God.
Then…
His brothers betrayed him.
Sold him into slavery.
Falsely accused.
Thrown into prison.
Forgotten by others.
For about 13 years, nothing made sense.
Joseph could have believed God abandoned him.
Instead…
Every delay positioned him for the palace.
Genesis 50:20
“You meant evil against me; but God meant it unto good…”
If Joseph became ruler earlier…
He wouldn’t have been prepared.
God’s timing saved Egypt.
God’s timing saved Israel.
God’s timing fulfilled His promise.
Point 4: Jesus Delayed on Purpose
John 11
Lazarus became sick.
Mary and Martha sent for Jesus.
Jesus loved them.
Yet…
He waited.
He delayed two more days.
Why?
Because Jesus wasn’t planning to heal a sick man.
He was preparing to raise a dead man.
Sometimes we pray for healing.
God has resurrection in mind.
Sometimes we ask God to fix the problem.
God wants to reveal His glory.
Point 5: Waiting Doesn’t Mean Doing Nothing
Waiting on God isn’t sitting in a chair doing nothing.
Waiting means…
Keep praying.
Keep serving.
Keep obeying.
Keep trusting.
Keep worshipping.
Noah waited while building.
David waited while serving.
Moses waited while shepherding.
Paul waited while preaching.
Jesus waited until age thirty before beginning His public ministry.
Nobody wasted the waiting.
Point 6: God Is Working Behind the Scenes
Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”
Notice…
It doesn’t say all things ARE good.
It says God works THROUGH all things.
Behind every delay…
God is arranging people.
Opening doors.
Closing dangerous doors.
Changing hearts.
Preparing opportunities.
Protecting you from mistakes you cannot yet see.
Illustration
When you order something online, there are days when nothing seems to happen.
You don’t see the warehouse.
You don’t see the trucks.
You don’t see the sorting centers.
But the package is moving.
God’s answers are often like that.
You don’t see the movement…
But Heaven is still working.
Point 7: Delays Protect Us
Children often want things before they’re ready.
A loving parent sometimes says,
“Not yet.”
Not because they don’t love the child.
Because they do.
God’s “wait” is often protection.
Perhaps…
The job wasn’t right.
The relationship wasn’t healthy.
The ministry wasn’t prepared.
The timing wasn’t safe.
Looking back years later, many believers realize,
“Thank You, Lord, for saying no.”
Point 8: The Greatest Delay in the Bible
Thousands of years passed after God promised a Savior.
Generation after generation waited.
Then…
Jesus came.
Galatians 4:4
“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son…”
Not early.
Not late.
Exactly on time.
God’s calendar is perfect.
Practical Application
While you’re waiting…
Stay faithful.
Stay in God’s Word.
Keep praying.
Continue serving others.
Avoid complaining.
Refuse bitterness.
Remember God’s past faithfulness.
Thank Him before the answer arrives.
Faith isn’t believing after you receive.
Faith is trusting before you see.
For the Deaf Community
Many deaf believers pray for answers that seem delayed.
Perhaps you’ve prayed for:
A job.
A spouse.
Healing.
A child.
Family restoration.
Ministry opportunities.
Financial help.
Sometimes you may feel forgotten.
But remember this truth:
God speaks through silence as much as through miracles.
Your value isn’t measured by how quickly your prayers are answered.
Your value is found in being a beloved child of God.
The waiting season does not mean God has stopped working.
He is preparing you for what comes next.
Conclusion
God is never late.
He is never rushed.
He is never surprised.
We often see only today’s problem.
God sees tomorrow’s victory.
Your delay may become someone else’s testimony.
Your waiting may prepare you for a greater purpose than you ever imagined.
Don’t quit five minutes before God’s breakthrough.
Hold on.
Keep trusting.
Keep believing.
God has not forgotten your name.
Invitation
Maybe today you’re tired of waiting.
You’ve prayed for months…
Or even years…
You wonder if God still hears you.
The invitation today is simple.
Bring your waiting to Jesus.
Lay your fears at His feet.
Trust His heart even when you cannot understand His timing.
God has never failed.
He will not begin with you.
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”
If you are weary from waiting, come to the Lord today. Let Him renew your strength, restore your hope, and remind you that His timing is always perfect.
Amen
